While filming our Discoveries Africa series in Tanzania, we met a gentleman who helps run this remarkable orphanage. He told us their story and invited us to visit, which we did and immediately decided to include a segment in one of our Tanzania shows. The founders of Malaika Children’s Home (“Malaika” meaning “Angel” in Kiswahili) were two European ladies resident in Arusha who had already been volunteers at various local orphanages, moved by their love for children and by the difficult situation they observed.
